Triangulated Digital Elevation Model: Definition of a New Representation
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we discuss about the need of a new DEM representation for simulation in GIS. This leads us to analyse through quality criteria the current DEM structures. Then we propose a new DEM representation adapted for spatial and graph terrain analysis. An algorithm is presented and the qualities of this structure are analysed. Finally, this structure is used in a thematic application for analysis and protection against avalanches.

Title : A Surface - Representation Approach to a Three - Dimensional Cadastre
First Paragraph Cadastral systems are traditionally two-dimensional. However, there is now much talk of extending them into the third dimension, in part by incorporating the elevation information in a terrain model. Terrain models have been around for quite some time and so have the arguments between using a grid (or DEM-Digital Elevation Model, in American parlance), or a triangulation (TIN-Tr...
متن کاملTriangulated Irregular Network Model from Mass Points
Digital Terrain Modeling, the Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) is a representation of a surface derived from irregularly spaced sample points and break line features. Paper deals with the basic concept of Delauney’s triangulation method with its practical approach in ArcGIS. The next section describes the process to convert mass points to TIN model and explores some of the basics of TIN Mod...
متن کاملWavelet triangulated irregular networks
GIS applications have recently begun to emerge on the Internet. The management of three-dimensional geographic datasets in this distributed environment poses a particularly challenging problem, which highlights the need for a good data representation. This paper presents a new multiresolution data representation: the Wavelet Triangulated Irregular Network (WTIN). Compared to the traditional cel...
متن کاملLocally Refined Splines Representation for Geospatial Big Data
When viewed from distance, large parts of the topography of landmasses and the bathymetry of the sea and ocean floor can be regarded as a smooth background with local features. Consequently a digital elevation model combining a compact smooth representation of the background with locally added features has the potential of providing a compact and accurate representation for topography and bathy...
متن کاملAlgorithms for Triangulated Terrains
Digital elevation models can represent many types of geographic data. One of the common digital elevation models is the triangulated irregular network (also called TIN, or polyhedral terrain, or triangulated terrain). We discuss ways to represent a TIN in a data structure, and give some of the basic algorithms that work on TINs. These include retrieving contour lines, computing perspective view...
